Core Ontology

The product section1 in the Core Ontology is used for describing and modelling the product, process and system specific information inside the knowledge base.

The product ontology supports variable types of product structures with rich meta-information. The process ontology defines the activities required to realise the product. The logic for describing the processes follows PSL (Process Sequence Language) in defining the occurances, having mainly starting time and duration. Milling and turning, for example, are described through system ontology part, where the capabilities of each machine configuration are described. The system ontology is used to describe the manufacturing environment and its characteristics. It defines the resources assigned to the processes. It includes the life-cycles of the production equipment and system-specific programs. Additional information, if needed, is presented as non-geometric features of the object and life-cycle-related information.

The domain ontology for representing the connections, Core Ontology was created with Protege 3.3.1/4.0 OWL DL editor and visualized with GraphViz?. The Core Ontology consists of three domains for describing a content and context of a model.
