Graduate Courses

DENIS organizes regular meetings and schools for the PhD? students and the main purpose is to provide lectures by top experts in the important fields of the doctoral network. Meetings are also social events where the students will be able to create contacts with other students working on same or similar problems.

The summer school is held in Rokua health&spa. Bus transfer will be available from Oulu to Rokua on August 15, and from Rokua to Oulu on August 17.


The course fee is 550 € that includes accommodation in a shared room, spa, breakfasts, lunches, dinners, social program and bus transportation Oulu-Rokua-Oulu.

Students belonging the DENIS: your registration fee will be covered by DENIS. For details, ask your local contact person.

Students will receive a certificate based on active participation in lectures, completing exercises, and returning a report about the summer school. The summer school is worth 2 ECTS credits.

Social program

The summer school will feature a social program to support networking.


Aalto University Otaniemi Campus, TUAS building, Otaniementie 17, Espoo.

Registration at TUAS building lobby. Lectures will be given in lecture hall AS1 (TUAS ground floor). Exercise sessions will be given in two groups in hall AS3 and hall 1021-1022 (both TUAS ground floor).


The course fee is 250 € including the academic and social program, lunches and coffees.

For students who are part of DENIS or HICT, the registration fee will be covered by DENIS or HICT. Practical details about this are available from your local DENIS or HICT representative. Limited number of registrations is available for students outside DENIS and HICT.

Accommodation is not included in the registration fee. Hostel accommodation is available e.g. from (Hostel Kivimies is located 1 km from the venue).

IEEE BigDataSE? 2015

In addition to the main summer school venue there is an option to participate the IEEE BigDataSE? 2015 Conference ( right after the summer school (August 20-22) organized in Helsinki. Additional credits will be grated for the BigDataSE? participating PhD? students and reduced fee is available for DENIS summer school participants. Summer School 2014 - Tampere, August 11-15 (2 ects)

The DENIS Summer School 2014 is the first in the series and the aim is to bring lecturers from Finnish participating Doctoral education units. The topics are interdisciplinary, but the aim is to also provide introduction to the general audience of engineering students in all fields of the DENIS network.


Fee and Registration

The course fee is 480 euros with accommodation and 340 euros (w/o accommodation). The fee includes

How to get to TUT?

The Hervanta Campus of Tampere University of Technology is roughly 9 km from the city centre (train station). You can reach the campus by the buses number 20, 3V and 13 that leave from the front of the train station (opposite the Stockmann store, the stop "Hämeenkatu 1") and stop at the university (the stop "TTY"). Timetables can be found from each bus stop or electronically from The buses stop right in front of the Tietotalo (other side of the road, see campus map) .
